Match Report

A youthful Stanley side lost 2-0 against National League side Barrow at the Furness Building Society Stadium.

Ross Hannah and Jordan Williams netted in the first half to hand the home team the victory in the pre-season game.

Summer signings Elliot Parish, Frazer Shaw, Bastian Hery and Luke Wall all started for the Reds in their second outing of the day after a training game with Blackburn in the afternoon.

Stanley had the first clear opening when Brayden Shaw shot into the side netting but it was the home side who took the lead after ten minutes from the penalty spot. Williams went down in the box, the referee awarded a penalty and Hannah stepped up to find the left corner.

The Reds looked to level with Wall cutting in from the left and testing Joel Dixon but couldn’t find a way to get on terms before Barrow added a second.

This time Hannah was the provider, pulling the ball back from the right for Williams to smash the ball off the underside of the bar and in to make it 2-0.

The fortunes at the other end were distinctly contrasting for John Coleman’s team as Boco’s similarly emphatic finish cannoned down off the woodwork onto the line and the Bluebirds cleared.

Boco and Hery tried their luck before the break but it was Barrow defender Moussa Diarra who has the best opportunity, blazing wide from inside the box.

After the restart Frazer Shaw set Max Hazeldine away but his progress was stopped by goalkeeper Joel Dixon who was booked for his challenge.

Nathan Webb tested substitute goalkeeper Andy Coughlin after being found by Boco but it wouldn’t have counted as the flag was up in a second half of few chances.

Wall caused some concerns with a free kick deflected over the top after Brayden Shaw was fouled on the edge of the box but the resulting corner came to nothing.

And the Reds went closer still as stoppage time loomed with Hery beating Coughlin all ends up with a fine free kick only for the ball to bounce back of the bar and youngster Ross Sykes could only head the follow up wide.

Stanley: Parish, Trialist, Sykes, Goulding, F Shaw, Boco, Hery, B Shaw, Hazeldine, Webb, Wall
