Match Report

Stanley had to settle for a point as Hartlepool scored a late equaliser at the Wham Stadium.

The Reds thought they had won it when Matty Pearson headed home in the 70th minute but, after a controversial free kick, Scott Harrison fired home the leveller five minutes from time.

Stanley had the first real chance on nine minutes with keeper Adam Bartlett diving low to keep out Shay McCartan’s close range effort.

Scott Brown had a fierce strike from 18 yards blocked while Hartlepool’s best early chance fell to Harrison but his volley was off-target on 24 minutes.

Pool midfielder Michael Woods saw an effort fly over the bar in a half of limited chances for either side.

Stanley’s Brown almost caught out Bartlett in the early stages of the second half with a long range looping effort which landed just under the posts and the Pool keeper grabbed the ball at the second attempt.

McCartan played in a couple of dangerous crosses which a red shirt just couldn’t get on the end on as Stanley looked for the opener.

And it came via the penalty spot when Liam Donnelly fouled Pearson in the area and Billy Kee fired home his ninth goal of the season in the 57th minute.

But Pool replied just three minutes later when former Stanley player Padraig Amond leapt highest to head home a Jordan Richards cross for his ninth goal of the season.

Sean McConville fired over as Stanley looked to retake the lead and they did on 70 minutes cwhen Pearson powered home a header from a McConville corner.

Jordan Clark and Hull loan debutant Jonathan Edwards came on and Clark was in the thick of the action immediately with Bartlett holding onto his strike.

Hartlepool came back though when a controversial free kick led to the ball pin balling around the area with Harrison eventually rifled the ball home to share the spoils.
