Accrington Stanley captain Seamus Conneely has today signed a new one-year contract with the club.
Conneely, who arrived in East Lancashire from Sligo Rovers midway through the 2014/15 campaign, was then handed the captaincy the following summer and later lifted the Sky Bet League Two trophy in 2018.
The 35-year-old has made a total of 348 appearances, with 30 of those coming last season, and has also contributed to 26 goals; including the equaliser in Stanley's 2-2 Emirates FA Cup draw against Doncaster.
Conneely’s new contract will keep him at the Wham Stadium until the summer of 2025.
John Doolan said: "Seamus had his injury, but he came back and finished the season really strong.
"He's a leader on and off the pitch, he's a great lad to have around, and he has a massive influence in the dressing room.
"He's still contributing and doing really well for the club."
Seamus added: "I was happy when John Doolan offered me a new deal. I am settled in the area and I am now looking forward to next season.
"I feel we under-achieved last year, I know we can improve and finish higher.
"I am excited to be working with John and Ged Brannan.
"I haven't worked with Ged much as he was Under-23s manager last time he was here, but he will bring fresh ideas, and I know him to be a very good man and an honest person.
"He is a good addition to the coaching staff and it will be an exciting season."
The extension is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
