Stanley striker Billy Kee has been nominated for League Two Player of the Year at the MBNA North West Football Awards.

And Shay McCartan has been put forward for the Rising Star Award.

Last season, Accrington Stanley swept the board with Piero Mingoia winning League Two Player of the Year and Josh Windass coming out on top in the Rising Star category.

Striker Kee is in the running this year for his exploits last season were he scored 17 goals and had the most assists as Stanley finished fourth in League Two, missing out on automatic promotion on goal difference.

“It’s great to be nominated,” he said. “Last season was great and now we’re concentrating on making this season a good one too.”

McCartan, 22, scored seven goals last season, including three in three games in March as Stanley maintained their push towards the top of the league.

“It’s nice to be nominated but it’s more important to score goals and win games,” said McCartan.

“It was frustrating last season as Josh was in my position and he obviously did so well and is a top player. I got my chance when he was unfit and I felt I performed well in those games.”
