Matty Pearson was left with mixed feelings after yesterday’s draw with Hartlepool United.

The defender scored and was involved as the Reds took the lead from the penalty spot but then saw the side twice concede to have their advantage cancelled out.

He admitted at full time it felt a little bit like a defeat.

“We’re all disappointed not to win,” said Pearson. “We have to be holding on in these sort of games and seeing them through but we haven’t. We got a point but sometimes a point isn’t good enough and we feel like we should have taken all three.

“I was getting away to cross the ball and someone came in and just shoved me. If I’d tried to attempt to cross the ball I wouldn’t have been able to so it was a foul and a penalty.

“It’s disappointing to concede so soon after. We need to learn from that. As soon as we score we need to be going again and thinking about getting another goal instead of having the mindset of thinking we’re a goal up and taking it easy. We can’t be holding on to what we have got, we have to push on and try to score again and again.

“I was obviously pleased to put us back in front but it was the same thing again – disappointed to concede a second goal. We’ll get it right though. As a defender it’s hard to concede two goals at home but we’ll learn from it.”
