Young Accrington Stanley defender Ross Sykes has joined Southport on a youth loan deal until January.

The 18-year-old has made three appearances for the Reds this season, two starts in the Checkatrade Trophy and a late substitute appearance away at Notts County, where he assisted Mallik Wilks stoppage time equaliser.

The Burnley-born centre-back, was on the books at Turf Moor but signed a professional deal with Stanley in 2016 after successful trial.

He made his senior debut for the club in August 2016 starting in the 3-0 defeat to Crewe in the EFL trophy group stage.

Sykes joins the National League North side as he looks to play regular first team football and everybody at Accrington Stanley wishes Ross all the best with his loan spell.
