Two Under 16s scored in extra-time to take Stanley through to the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup against Leeds United.

Schoolboys Jack Doherty and Luke Stowe – both substitutes – fired home in the second half of extra-time as the tie was finally balanced.

Stanley raced into a two-goal lead inside the first 10 minutes.

In the opening minutes, in their first attack, Alex O’Neil made space on the right wing, played in a cross and Charlie Ridge smashed the ball home.

In their second attack it was two with winger Lewis Gilboy – who scored a double in the previous round – charging in from the left and firing low into the bottom far corner of the net.

Leeds pressed around the box without really testing keeper Toby Savin while Stanley looked dangerous every time they went forward.

Savin was called into action to tip over a Theo Hudson strike from distance and he also denied the Leeds frontman from a free kick.

O’Neil did break for Stanley just before half-time but the United defence got back and he fired wide.

Leeds came out strongly after the break and Hudson scored early on before he fired home a second to make it 2-2.

The Reds then had some desperate defending to do, clearing the ball off the line.

Towards the end, of normal time Stanley forced a couple of corners but the match went into extra-time.

In the first half of extra-time, goalkeeper Savin made a number of strong saves and Stanley’s Dan Martin was unlucky to send a half volley just off-target.

Then, in the second half, the Reds took charge with Doherty firing home into the bottom corner of the net and Stowe scoring a superb solo effort to take Stanley through.

They will face Liverpool or Portsmouth away in the next round.
