Scott Brown scored a late winner on his debut as Stanley celebrated all three points in their promotion battle with third placed Oxford United.
Brown latched onto Billy Kee’s pass and fired home in the 88th minute for 10-man Stanley as they closed the gap to three points on United with two games in hand.
Fourth placed Stanley did suffer more red card agony with Tom Davies dismissed for a second yellow card six minutes from the end but the Reds went onto secure a valuable three points.
In a match dictated by the wind, Oxford had the first real chance in the fourth minute when Chris Maguire’s 20 yard free kick cannoned off the crossbar.
Both sides enjoyed spells of pressure without seriously testing either keeper until the 29th minute when Oxford struck.
An angled shot from the left from Maguire found its way into the bottom of the net– whether it got a touch from top scorer Kemar Roofe or not was unsure and the pair were battling it out in claiming the goal.
United could have made it two with Jordan Bowery clean through but Ross Etheridge denied him with his legs and then the Oxford striker fired wide in a good position as the home side looked for a second.
However Stanley had a great chance to level on 41 minutes when keeper Benji Buchel couldn’t keep hold of Piero Mingoia’s high ball to the far post and it fell to Sean McConville who rifled the ball against the woodwork.
The Reds suffered a blow on the stroke of half-time when defender Joe Wright was stretchered off injured and was replaced by Liam Wakefield.
But, within 19 seconds of the restart, the Reds were level when McConville’s cross was headed home by Kee for his 13th of the season.
Stanley pressed for a second with Mingoia testing Buchel after pouncing on a defensive error and then Brayden Shaw, who had been on the pitch a matter of seconds, rifled a strike just over the crossbar on 80 minutes.
But then defender Tom Davies was dismissed for a second yellow card with six minutes remaining.
However it didn’t stop Stanley with Brown the hero in the automatic promotion battle.
