Match Report

Accrington Stanley’s wait for a first League One home win continues after a 1-1 draw with Burton Albion at the Wham Stadium.

Scott Fraser put the visitors ahead early in the first half, the sixth time in seven matches that Stanley have fallen behind, and despite no lack of effort the Reds were unable to find a way back into the match in the first half.

The second half looked to be going the same way until Billy Kee scored his third of the season, converting a penalty with seven minutes left to play after Offrande Zanzala was brought down in the area by Kyle McFadzean.

John Coleman made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Scunthorpe at home last weekend, Kee and Ross Sykes returning in place of Zanzala and Michael Ihiekwe.

The Reds had the best of the early chances, with Jordan Clark racing down the right in the 4th minute, finding Kee with a pass, but the striker’s shot was parried by goalkeeper Bradley Collins for a Stanley corner.

The opening ten minutes was end-to-end, Connor Ripley saving David Templeton’s shot, before Sean McConville was thwarted by Collins.

Stanley fell behind in the 11th minute, Fraser reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box before lashing it into the roof of the net after Ripley had parried Marvin Sordell’s earlier effort.

The visitors could have then doubled their lead were it not for Nick Anderton, who threw himself into the path of Sordell’s shot.

Anderton was then involved at the other end, meeting a McConville free kick with a looping header but Collins was able to gather the ball.

McConville then cut in from the left after the half hour mark, tried to curl a shot from range past Collins, but it was just wide of the right-hand post.

The second half started slowly in comparison to the first, as Stanley probed a visiting defence that were prepared to sit back and counter attack.

In the 61st minute Sam Finley saw his shot from distance go just wide of the left post, after good work down the left by Anderton.

Connor Hall, off the bench for his Stanley debut, saw a curling effort rebound off the post in the 81st minute as Stanley pressed for a leveller.

With time running out, Zanzala was then hauled down in the box by McFadzean.

Up stepped Kee to smash a powerful spot kick past substitute goalkeeper Harry Campbell in the 83rd minute to rescue a point for the Reds.

Stanley could have snatched a winner very late on, desperate for that first home win.

Zanzala raced clear into the penalty area in added time and put the ball in the back of the net, only to see the assistant flag for offside.
